Skateboard Sam says NO to drugs

I had to go down to animal control to pick up a tag for one of my dogs. For whatever reason, they had a roll of these funny stickers.

Wood: China vs. Mexico vs. USA (Update # 3)

Third update on the wood showdown. After four sessions in with the Mexico Alien, I was definitely happy. During the fifth session, it broke. The trick that cracked that sucker was a switch 360 flip off a wheelchair ramp and I actually snapped it at the leading truck, which is really odd. I can't even remember that last time I broke a board that wasn't at the trailing truck due to sitting back too far. I never break boards down the middle and breaking a board at the leading truck us just straight up weird. Totally sucks because I was really digging this board.

PS Stix USA Habitat board is next. It looks a bit thinner than the other two and the shape is a bit more tapered.

Reynold's frontside flip

This is absolutely ridiculous. From SBC's coverage of Wild in the Streets 2009. Video here.

Vancouver Parks Board

We're so lucky to have someone on the Vancouver Parks Board who's down for the cause. Sarah Blyth, who helped start the Vancouver Skateboard Coalition, was voted onto the Parks Board in the 2008 election. Just last month, a new skate park at Kensington Park received approval. Here's an SBC interview with her.

Michael Jordan and Justin Timberlake vs. Bethpage Black

It all started several years ago when Tiger Woods said a 10 handicapper couldn't break 100 on a US Open course. All three celebrities not only broke 100 but broke 90, while the random dude shot 101.

Nice etiquette JT!

DIY skateboard

Recently found this website on how to make your own decks. Freaking MacGyver! Dude has a lot of information there and even has step by step instructions of how to make your own concrete molds and hydraulic press! If you feel inclined to make your own decks, this website is for you.

Bazooka the Japanese Skateboarding Dog

I have no idea why skateboarding dogs are always bulldogs. The first one I remember seeing was in Public Domain or Ban This. This little Bazooka dude even has his own blog.

Creager trick shot

More Ronnie Creager! Dude's been killing it for ages. Go check out his online store Happy Skateboarding and his youtube page, which contains fun clips and trick tips such as bs tail 270 out.

A bit late but my friend Rob at Feeble Grind went down and is posting his observations on his blog. Go check it!

Lizard King's ollie scarewalk and one footed bs ollie were pretty bananas. Lindsey Robertson's bs heel was damn casual. Is that dude now officially bionic like Danny Way with all those surgeries?

Blind Jordan Richter

The Blind Jordan Richter condom instruction board. This deck had a perfect shape at the time. Our local shop got only one of these in and one of the employees, who was a mountain bike guy and didn't even skate, ended up buying it. What an asshole! A Marc Mckee graphic that was yanked from Disposable.

Wood: China vs. Mexico vs. USA (Update # 2)

Second update on the wood showdown. The Chinese Black Label is finished after less than ten sessions. It shot out on me on a big spin and the tail got crushed on the corner of a pillar. No more pop. Feels like crap. From the get go, the shape of this deck was definitely off for me... tail felt short and tapered while the nose was too wide/spoon-like. I can't really blame the short life span on the Chinese wood. I tried to glue and press the crushed plies back together but it didn't really work. During my last session, I knew that it was the boards last. Just kidding around, I "stepped heavily" on the board and it actually broke. It wasn't an intentional focus as I barely put any force in my stomp. Oh well.

Next up is the Mexico Alien Workshop. Sick shape. I'm excited about this one. Ari Gold from Paradox sent me a few sheets of magic griptape so this sucker is covered with that. Haven't done any of the tests yet. First pre-skate impression... cutting it was easy, feels grippy enough. We'll see!

Recycling skateboards

Last December, my wife dragged me to a local craft fair to search for Christmas gifts. There was one lady there who had belt buckles made from recycled skateboards. It's kind of weird to see accessories with slide marks on them. Just this past week I stumbled upon this: earrings, necklaces and bangles made out of old skateboards. She also makes belt buckles exactly like the ones I saw at the Christmas craft fair.
